Dump Truck Insurance
Aggregates, asphalt, dirt work, snow: dump trucks earn their keep on job sites, and job sites are their own insurance world. We quote dump truck operations the way we quote everything: by knowing the work first.
What is dump truck insurance?
Dump truck insurance is commercial trucking coverage for straight trucks that haul and dump aggregates, dirt, asphalt, and demolition debris. A typical policy combines commercial auto liability, physical damage on the truck, and often general liability for job site work, with certificate requirements from contractors and municipalities shaping the limits.
A straight dump truck lives a different life than an over-the-road tractor: short radius, dozens of loads a day, constant backing on crowded job sites, and a raised bed that turns a soft shoulder or an overhead line into the claim that defines the year. Policies priced off long-haul assumptions get all of that wrong, and so do the certificate requirements: general contractors and municipalities each want their own additional-insured language before your truck clears the gate.
We insure dump work alongside the rest of our bulk book, from a single tri-axle owner-operator to mixed fleets running quarries, paving seasons, and winter snow contracts. Your account gets shopped across 50+ transportation insurance markets and placed with underwriters who write construction trucking on purpose, with the certificates handled so the paperwork never costs you the job.

Trucking InsuranceWhat we look at
Raised-bed and rollover exposure
Beds up on uneven ground, overhead lines, and tip-overs are the losses that define this class. Markets that know dump work underwrite and price them fairly; markets that don't decline or overcharge. We know which is which.
Job site and contract requirements
Additional insureds, waivers of subrogation, and specific limits are the price of admission on construction and municipal work. Send us the contract's insurance section and we'll build the program and certificates to match.
Radius and season, priced honestly
Most dump work runs a tight radius, and many trucks swap to snow or sit for the winter. Your rate should follow how the truck actually works the calendar, not a template.
Questions
Asked and answered.
Do you insure single dump trucks and owner-operators?
Yes. We support operations of every size, from one single-axle or tri-axle up to full construction fleets. Many of our dump clients started as one truck.
What coverage does a dump truck operation usually carry?
Auto liability, physical damage on the truck, and, depending on the work, general liability and motor truck cargo. Construction contracts often drive the limits, so we quote the account against the contracts you actually haul under.
We plow snow in the winter. Does that change the policy?
It can, and it's exactly the kind of thing to tell your agent before the season, not after a claim. We work with markets comfortable with dump trucks that swap to snow work, and we make sure the policy knows about the plow.
Is this different from end dump trailer insurance?
Yes. This page covers straight dump trucks; tractor-pulled end dump and belly dump trailers are quoted under our bulk trucking book. We write both, often in the same fleet, and either way it's one team quoting the whole account.
How much does dump truck insurance cost?
Most single-truck dump operations we see land between $4,500 and $15,000 per year for a full package, with radius, materials, driving records, and job site requirements deciding where in that range you fall. Treat that as what to expect, not a quote or a guarantee: equipment values, claims history, and the insurance market all move the number. A quote on your actual operation is free and takes minutes to start.
